It is aimed at physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, psychologists, researchers, policy makers, regulators and anyone interested in the personal and public health issues connected with tobacco use around the world. Treatobacco.net is produced and maintained by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, in association with the World Bank, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, the Cochrane Group and a panel of international experts. The Editorial Chief is Ron Davis from the Centre for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Henry Ford Health System, USA. The database has five sections, covering key areas in the treatment of tobacco dependence: 1) Efficacy; 2) Safety; 3) Demographics and Health Effects; 4) Health Economics; and 5) Policy.
Tobacco Control Strategy Planning Guides Developed by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), there are two planning guides and two companion guides displayed on this website. The first planning guide, Strategy Planning for Tobacco Control Advocacy takes non-governmental organization planners through the process of developing long- and short-term national strategic plans with an emphasis on media advocacy. The second guide, Strategy Planning for Tobacco Control Movement Building, helps planners identify the kinds of people and allied organizations that can be the most helpful to them in putting together and implementing national plans. This guide includes methods for recruiting allies, tips for organizing effective alliances, leadership requirements for effective national tobacco control movements, and critical lessons in movement leadership. Each guide, continuously updated, provides both practical guidance and links to other useful guides and resources. The website contains the full text of these guides and others not available elsewhere on line, as well as all the links listed in the guides.
Center for Tobacco Cessation Jointly funded by the American Cancer Society and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center for Tobacco Cessation (CTC) was created to serve as the source of best available science on tobacco cessation and works within the U.S. to expand the use of effective tobacco dependence treatments. The “Research” section of the website provides useful information on research trends, key peer-reviewed articles and studies.
NCI Smoking and Tobacco Control Monographs The National Cancer Institute established the Smoking and Tobacco Control Monograph series in 1991 to provide ongoing and timely information about emerging pubic health issues in smoking and tobacco use control. The series reduces the time between availability of information from research projects and the publication and wide dissemination of this information, and enhances the rapidity with which NCI can use findings from research trials to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. There are currently 14 monographs, many of which are online. Topics covered include: changing adolescent smoking prevalence, health effects of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and state and local legislative action to reduce tobacco use.
