The GTRN Literature Database is an easily searched comprehensive tool for accessing tobacco control
literature from over 30 countries. It provides synthesized information on articles
from the 9 most popular databases in the fields of economics,
psychology, medicine, business, and public health: BusIndustry, CINAHL, Academic Search
Elite, Embase.com, PsychInfo, World Health Organization, World Bank JOLIS, ABI/Inform (Proquest), and Business Source Premier.
A unified search criteria was used to import all articles from these databases using the following keywords:
(Smoking OR Tobacco OR Cigarettes OR Nicotine)
as they appear in the title, citation, keywords or abstract of the article available in the database.
These articles were then manually reviewed for inclusion in the final database and catalogued by intent and subintent as indicated by the National Organization of Tobacco Use Research Funding (NOTURF) classification criteria (READ classification of articles), while allowing the flexibility of adding more criteria whenever appropriate to ensure a more proper and reliable classification.
The GTRN Literature Database is an important resource for researchers to help identify gaps in the current state of tobacco research, and to indicate the relative investment or interest in tobacco control.
It is also a potential tool for regional comparison on tobacco control research as well as networking between researchers and practitioners in the field. The database contains contact information of the 1st author of each article and will allow tobacco control practitioners and researchers to locate researchers working in their areas of interest to facilitate collaboration.
System Requirements: The GTRN database is solely accessible online. In order to access the database, you will need Internet Explorer v. 5 or above, or Netscape v. 6 or above.
